In India, tiger conservation has taken on an entirely new dimension with many efforts being taken simultaneously at various levels.
The monitoring mechanism has been corrected and a scientific methodology has been implemented in order to arrive a more realistic conclusions.
Working on the same lines, Project Tiger has been converted into Tiger Conservation Authority. A lot of money has been spent on relocation of villages and those lands have been reassigned.
This drastic change in attitude was rooted in the exposure of certain grave issues at Sariska Tiger Reserve in 2005. The entire story was investigated and published by one reporter, Jay Mazoomdar, when these was not a single tiger left. Government agencies tried real hard to establish that the tiger simply migrated by climbing up the mountains or went into biding somewhere in the forest.
