The medical examination report of the two tigers whose carcasses were found in the Haripur forest range of Pilibhit district last month, has revealed the presence of some traces of organochlorine compounds in them, confirming the suspicion of the forest officials that the tigers were poisoned. Pilibhit Divisional Forest Officer VK Singh said the medical examination report received from Indian Veterinary Research Institute, Bareilly, today has revealed the presence of some toxic organochlorine compounds in the bodies of tigers, confirming the officials’ suspicion that the tigers were poisoned by the accused persons who have been booked for the killings of tigers.
He said a calf whose half-eaten body was recovered from the same area of the forest where the bodies of two tigers were found, was used as a bait by the accused persons to poison the tigers. Forest officials on Monday arrested another person in connection with the killings. The accused person named Lalla, a resident of Narosa village on the border of Pilibhit and Kheri districts, has been arrested for allegedly planning and executing the killings along with his five colleagues.
