WILD ANIMAL ATTACKS

335.   SHRI KRUPAL BALAJI TUMANE:
Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:

(a)    whether there has been a spurt in the number of deaths due to attacks by tigers and elephants during the recent years in the country;

(b)    if so, the details thereof during the last three years, State wise;

(c)    the names of the States which have sent proposals for additional assistance for prevention from such animal attacks; and

(d)    the funds released to such States during the current financial year, State-wise?

MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE  (DR. HARSH VARDHAN)

(a)     & (b)    Definite and consistent increase in number of deaths due to tiger and elephant attacks has not been reported. The details of human causality due to tiger and elephant during the last three years, State wise, are given in Annexure-I and Annexure-II.

(c)    No proposal has been received from any State for additional assistance for prevention of animal attack.

(d)    Does not arise.
