POACHING OF ONE-HORN-RHINO

Will the Minister of ENVIRONMENT, FORESTS AND CLIMATE CHANGE be pleased to state:-

(a) whether the Government has any plan to check Poaching of One-Horn-Rhino in the forest areas and if so, the details thereof;
(b) if not, the reason therefor; and
(c) the details of the steps taken and plan outlay for the aforesaid plan, if any?

MINISTER FOR ENVIRONMENT, FOREST AND CLIMATE CHANGE (DR. HARSH VARDHAN)

(a), (b)&(c)One-Horn-Rhino are found in three states vide Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Assam. Following steps are taken by the respective states to check illegal poaching of one-horn-rhino:

a) Deployment of additional forces in Anti-Poaching Camps.
b) Procurement of sophisticated arms and ammunition for the staff deployed inside the protected areas.
c) Use of E- Surveillance by Electronic Eye and Drone.
d) Recruitment and deployment of Special Rhino Protection Force (SRPF).
e) Eco- Development Committee are constituted in surrounding villages of protected areas which are working in co-ordination with park/sanctuary authorities towards the conservation and protection of Wildlife.
f) Notable wildlife conservationists have been designated as Honorary Wildlife Wardens, in their designated districts to facilitate their expertise and larger public cooperation in the conservation effort.
g) Setting up of Forest Protection Force in vulnerable areas.
h) Construction of protection camps, watch towers etc. at strategic locations to keep vigil.
i) Preparation of databases for wildlife offenders as a precautionary measure in the enforcement initiatives.
j) Liaising with Wild Life Crime Control Bureau.
